Book Review: The First Lady of World War II
Eleanor Roosevelt's Daring Journey to the Frontlines and Back
Regular readers of Thelma and Lowell’s Diary may recall that Eleanor Roosevelt is at this time visiting military bases in the Pacific, part of a 25,000-mile journey she made during August and September 1943.
Much of my writing about this is informed by a new book by Shannon McKenna Schmidt, who I had the pleasure of hearing speak at the Roosevelt Reading Day at the FDR Presidential Library and Museum in June. This photo of one of the two uniforms Mrs. Roosevelt wore on the trip is from the library’s collection. (The second one was made of seersucker, for hotter weather.)
