Modern politicians are taking a page out of the Roman caesars' book
To keep the population docile, caesars in the late Roman Empire provided free wheat and entertainment (i.e. bread and circuses). It worked — for awhile. Economist Bruce Yandle argues modern politicians are doing the same thing, at the cost of eye-popping deficits. It can’t last forever.
