Chief Askew was having a quiet day at the Newnan Police Department, but observed that “they are selling some land and some other things in front of the Courthouse.” Some of this was property that had been foreclosed upon by a local bank and the Federal Land Bank because people couldn’t pay back their loans.

While the Newnan Herald pretty much stuck to local news, larger newspapers customarily ran short, titilating stories from around the country and even the world.
