Chief Askew's Diary: April 26-27, 1930
Large crowds in town; a beloved teacher's death is followed by a quick funeral
There was so little going on this weekend in Newnan, Georgia that I am combining the two days in one post. Chief Askew noted large crowds of people in town Saturday and driving around on Sunday, but “all very quiet and orderly,” with “nothing doing in our line,” which I am sure made him happy after the violent events of the previous weekend.
One thing he mentioned that intrigued me was the death of a beloved teacher and her funeral that followed just 26 hours later. I wondered, was this common? Paid subscribers can read on about Mrs. Letha Keith.
