Chief Askew observed in his diary that it was “Another nice day, but just a little bit cloudy.” He apparently didn’t know it was the 100th birthday of one of the labor movement’s most fiery leaders, Mary Harris Jones, better known as “Mother Jones.” Paid subscribers can read on about this remarkable woman, whose name is carried by the left-leaning magazine, Mother Jones.
