There was a light police court this morning, and Chief Askew was grateful that another good rain had come to Newnan Sunday afternoon. Another of his “Boys” had started his vacation, with the other officer due back from his that night. A good boss, Chief Askew didn’t take his own vacation until last.

In London, 8,000 people had crowded into Royal Albert Hall on Sunday afternoon for a memorial service combined with a sort of seance led by the spiritualist medium Estelle Roberts. Their purpose: to communicate with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who had died the previous week. Paid subscribers can read on about what was reported in American newspapers on July 14.
