“Everything still very quiet with the Police Department. The County forces seem to be having the same kind of luck,” Chief Askew wrote in his diary today.

Newnan was a sea of calm in a world of turmoil. In Chicago, a newspaper reporter who had written extensively about crime and mobsters was murdered in a gangland hit.

On a lighter note, five Atlanta men were on trial for violating an obscure state law: they went fishing on Sunday.
