“We finally rounded up all the skinners that got away the other night but Jim Heard,” Chief Askew wrote, referring to the illegal gambling game his “Boys” busted into, “he is still in the bushes.”

While Newnan experienced a hard rain this afternoon, the South as a whole was welcoming the return of spring with open arms. Signs were everywhere, and this amusing cartoon, which appeared in today’s Columbus Ledger, depicted all the leisure activities that awaited “all of us” as we left the church with the bride of spring on our arm: sports, motoring, gardening, and spring fashions.
