Chief Askew’s diary was all about the arrival of 200 delegates to the state Daughters of the American Revolution convention in Newnan. “…lots of Lady visitors in Town,” he wrote.

There was a “Big Supper” at the Masonic Temple in honor of the women, and then the official business began at the city auditorium at 8 p.m., with an address by Newnan Mayor James E. Brown.

In Chicago, a woman who was once a legendary figure in newspaper offices passed away. Paid subscribers can read on about “Apple Mary.”
