Chief Askew's Diary: May 10-11, 1930
A quiet weekend; Mother's Day is celebrated with candy, flowers, and Vinol
Chief Askew was mostly occupied with the weather this weekend, writing in his diary about the need for rain, of which there was little. He commented, “Not very much doing in our line, made 3 or 4 cases during Saturday afternoon and Sat night for drunkenness, and Etc.”
It was Mother’s Day Sunday in 1930, just as it is today, and Newnan’s business owners were urging their customers to celebrate Mom with candy, flowers and other gifts. One drugstore offered a tonic so her children wouldn’t hate her.
