Chief Askew wrote in his diary this morning that graduation exercises (for the white high school students) had been held the previous evening at the city auditorium, “about 70 or more Graduating.”

Actually, there were 71 graduates, 29 boys and 42 girls, according to the report in the May 30, 1930 Newnan Herald. This Newnan Herald photo of Newnan High School is from the archives of the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society. A new school opened in 1946. The old school was used for a time as a junior high, and was torn down and replaced by a city park. The photo above is a cropped version of an unknown class in 1923, found on eBay.
