Chief Askew wrote in his diary that his “boys” returned this afternoon with “C.W. Hines a Young white man about 19 years old that disappeared with J.A. Brown’s Dodge Sedan.” Not only had the young man allegedly stolen a car in Georgia and taken it across state lines to Alabama, he “claimed he was from Texas!” the chief wrote.
