John Monk Saunders was one of the most successful screenwriters in Hollywood in the late 1920s and 1930s. He wrote the script for the Howard Hughes-produced epic Wings, which won the 1928 Oscar for best picture (the first Oscars given!), and received a now-defunct Best Story Oscar for the movie The Last Flight, based on his novel Single Lady.
