Mr. Lanham’s garden looked bedraggled today due to the heavy rain the night before. Though he had put the financial problems of the family business aside for a few days, it was on his mind again, as two men visited “to look over our stock and fixtures this afternoon,” he wrote, “but I have no idea whether they will help us or not.”
