There was a flower show in Rome today and Anne Lanham and her next-door-neighbor, Mrs. Towers, cut and entered some irises for Mr. Lanham in the “greatest number of named varieties class.” He was also one of three judges.
“Flowers lovely — especially iris,” he wrote. “Not many peonies — a few fine roses.”
