In between admiring his flower garden today, Mr. Lanham served as a pall bearer for a funeral in the morning and attended a concert of the Rome Symphony Orchestra in the evening, the penultimate event of Music Week. “Was fine,” he wrote in crabbed script at the bottom of the page. The flower descriptions always come first in Mr. Lanham’s diary!
