It was a cloudy and cool morning in Rome and everything was “wet and bedraggled” in Mr. Lanham’s garden. He found a few buds to cut to decorate the Lanham & Sons store on Broad Street. The rain continued off and on all day and “Business was very, very dull,” he wrote.
