Mr. Lanham prattled on about the weather — including heavy rain that was “worth lots to the farmers” — and the graduating class of Shorter College being guests of the Kiwanis Club. The program “was full of pep,” he proclaimed.

And then at the very bottom of the page: “No developments today except that Papa deeded his home to the bank. A sad day for me.”
