The temperature rose into the 70s today in Rome with “some scattering clouds but a very fine spring-like day — and that is what it was, the first spring day,” Mr. Lanham wrote enthusiastically. The family went to church, where Sunday school attendance was good, and then took a drive out Bluff Road.
