It was Sunday School promotion day at the Lanhams’ church, a big event where every child received a certificate and got to move up to the next class level. Unfortunately, Julia Anne had such a bad cough that her parents felt it best for her to stay home. “She stayed in bed sewing most of the day,” her father wrote.
