On board the SS Cuba for their return voyage, the Culps met a “young German Jewish couple” from Berlin and enjoyed a nice long talk together. (She doesn’t share what the talk was about. How could it not have included life in Berlin under the Nuremberg Laws, passed in 1935, which had greatly restricted the lives of German Jews once Hitler came to power?)…
