Was it Else’s birthday? Mrs. Culp doesn’t say so, but she mentions their friend Mrs. Schuler gave her “a very pretty white silk slip.” Mrs. H—, who Mrs. Culp still blamed for causing her to fall out of bed and bang her head, called up, but “was very lukewarm over the telephone.” Hmmm.
