Jackie told Mrs. Culp during a phone call today that she had either lost or had taken from her purse $5. That was quite a loss — almost $100 in current terms.

Walter continued to work in his shop, skipping lunch.

Mrs. Culp visited Mrs. H— who served a snack of pineapple juice and crackers. (Sounds pretty skimpy to me.)
