Thank goodness, the floors in the Culps’ front room were finished and waxed today, at a cost of $17.50 (in current dollars: $331.77). “Looks good,” she proclaimed, and that’s all she wrote in her diary today.

These days hardwood floors are generally sealed with polyeurethane, but unsealed floors require regular waxing and buffing to maintain their shine.…
