The short item about sugar rationing, above, which appeared in the Washington Evening Star today, was right on the money. Mrs. Gunn went to the Giant grocery store to shop and learned “we could only get two lbs. of sugar to a customer.” She lamented, “I wish I had gotten some brown sugar long ago.”
In other news in today’s newspaper, it was announced that the popular young actor Mickey Rooney had married a “Girl from North Carolina.” It wasn’t just any girl, however; it was Ava Gardner, who would make a career as a sultry screen siren, as well as romancing a string of men, some of whom she married, including singer/actor Frank Sinatra and big band director Artie Shaw.
