In New York City with two girlfriends for the weekend, Mrs. Gunn bought two dresses at Gimbel’s (future Christmas hangout of Buddy the Elf), some play books — we’ll learn she is an amateur playwright — and saw two more Broadway plays, managing to purchase tickets even though the theaters were “jammed [with] everyone trying to forget the war.”
