Mrs. Gunn's Diary: Jan. 3, 1942
Her husband takes two sons to New York; war news fills the Evening Star
“Ross Sr. took Charles and Leigh to New York,” Mrs. Gunn wrote on this Saturday. “They are to see the sights — Radio City, Empire State Building, Fifth Ave., subway, elevated [rail] and Broadway — Times Square at Night.” Ross Jr. was apparently still camping with the Boy Scouts and she was at home with baby Bob. She was obviously enjoying her little guy, who she said was “very cute…He plays all by himself with blocks and trucks.”
Today’s Washington Evening Star was full of news about the war and how Americans on the home front could help. Paid subscribers can read on about how its impact had increased in just two days.
The vintage postcard of Times Square at night is being offered on eBay.
