Margaret got rides to and from the hospital today from friends and reported Mary Elizabeth was “quite lively,” Professor Hamilton wrote. He spent a good bit of the day working on the Pi Gamma Mu social sciences honor society banquet scheduled later in April.

He visited with Dr. C.E. Roth, pastor of St. Andrew’s Reformed Church, and invited him to the banquet. “He retaliated with invitation to dinner at hotel with his catechitical [religious instruction] class,” he wrote. I wonder about that verb — “retaliated”!

After that he collected menus from the Thomas Jefferson Tea Room, Barbara Ann Tea Room and a hotel as possible sites (or caterers) for the banquet, then headed for home. The Barbara Ann Tea Room advertised as “the home of Dutch cooking” on its matchbooks. This one is offered by a seller on eBay.

A front-page story in the Reading Times announced the appointment of a woman as head of the vital statistics bureau in greater Reading. Paid subscribers can read on about why this was such a big deal.
