It was another raw day, “rainy, windy and cold all day,” but besides his professorial duties of teaching, grading papers and attending a faculty meeting, Professor Hamilton and a colleague took in an evening concert at the Rajah Temple featuring the noted Italian tenor Nino Martini.

“He has a fine melodious voice and Dr. F. enjoyed the Italian songs immensely, as I did too,” he wrote.

The Reading Times had an amusing front-page interview with the singer in today’s paper. Paid subscribers can read some of his bon mots.

The photo of Martini, taken in 1936, is a publicity still for the movie The Gay Desperado, in which he starred with Ida Lupino, accessed via Wikimedia Commons.
