At long last, Professor Lanham was finished with his thesis. He and Margaret drove to New York where he delivered the manuscript to the Columbia University Press, which would be publishing it. “The representative said I would hear from them in about three weeks,” he wrote. “Thought they would not get it out until January, although the galleys would be ready much sooner.”

What a great day! He and Margaret celebrated by having lunch at the International House on Riverside Drive with a friend.
