Professor Hamilton's Diary: August 8, 1935
They take a road trip with Gwennie; Will Rogers flies around Alaska with Wiley Post
The Hamiltons began a road trip today with Gwennie, apparently leaving their younger daughter with her grandparents. They drove to Albany, lunching at the YWCA Cafeteria, then to Schenectady, where they called on his thesis advisor at Union College, Dr. Dixon Ryan Fox and his wife. They drove on to Syracuse, where they supped stayed with his sister Rose and had a reunion with various other relatives before heading to bed.
Will Rogers, probably the most popular entertainer in America at that time, reached Juneau, Alaska while flying with with his friend, the record-breaking aviator Wiley Post. It was the first leg of a trip that began in Seattle and would end in disaster. Paid subscribers can read about it below.
The vintage postcard of the Union College Library is being offered on eBay.
