Professor Hamilton's Diary: Dec. 1, 1935
It is a snowy Sunday; 'dry' leader predicts the return of Prohibition
Waking up at his in-laws’ home in Bronxville, New York, Professor Hamilton drove to Scarsdale to meet with his colleague Dr. Krout for a few hours, then returned to Bronxville. “It had begun to snow,” he wrote. He spent a quiet afternoon “listening to radio & resting” and did some work on his thesis manuscript that evening, with his sister-in-law Marion typing a few pages for him. He got to bed at a relatively early 10:30.
In national news, the head of the Anti-Saloon League predicted a return to Prohibition, which had ended two years before with the ratification of the 21st Amendment. Paid subscribers can read on about this optimistic abstainer.
