Professor Hamilton's Diary: Dec. 5, 1935
Margaret has an evening out; Albright students like Mussolini, Leslie Howard, Sinclair Lewis
With the semester winding down — the Christmas break at Albright College would begin on Dec. 19 — Professor Hamilton spent the day teaching and grading papers. Margaret had an evening out, first practicing with her string ensemble, then meeting with some of the women of their church, and didn’t get home until 11 p.m.
The results of a survey of students at Albright College taken shortly before the Thanksgiving break presented an interesting insight into the minds of young people in 1935. Quizzed about world affairs, leaders they admired, popular culture and favorite activities, the students had some very strong — and sometimes contradictory — opinions, and there were stark differences between the opinions of male and female students. I can only imagine Professor Hamilton’s reaction!
