Professor Hamilton held his morning and afternoon classes as usual today, but his concerns were for his young daughter, who became “very fussy” in the afternoon. We tried every way to appease her, but she was very sick,” he wrote. Her illness disrupted his plan for the evening to attend the Open Forum at the Woman’s Club. In staying home, he missed a packed-house lecture on the failures of education and how they could be addressed by Dr. Eduard C. Lindeman, an authority on adult education.

Clara Waters, the first woman to serve as warden of an all-male prison, made headlines today following a bloody outbreak at the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite, OK. Paid subscribers can read about this remarkable woman and the ignominous end of her tenure. Photo from the Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History and Culture.
