It was a quiet Saturday for Professor Hamilton. He taught his morning classes at Albright College, typed a bit on his dissertation while listening to opera on the radio, and took his car’s dead battery to the Esso station to be charged.

The evening before, President Roosevelt gave a radio address on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, an organization he had long supported.
