Professor Hamilton's Diary: Jan. 19, 1935
He takes the family to the TJ Tea Room; FDR attends Alfalfa Club banquet
Outings for meals were on the calendars of both Professor Hamilton and President Roosevelt this Saturday. After teaching morning classes, the professor took his family for their mid-day meal to the Thomas Jefferson Tea Room, which may have been located at 524 Franklin Street, as this matchbook cover, being offered on eBay, attests.
Margaret also priced pianos at two downtown stores. Neither of them was Edwards Temple of Music, whose pianos are displayed in this vintage postcard found on eBay.
While the Hamiltons were having a quiet evening at home, FDR was attending the annual stag banquet of the Alfalfa Club at the Willard Hotel. The sole purpose of this private club, which continues to exist today, is to hold a black-tie banquet in January.
