Professor Hamilton's Diary: Jan. 23, 1935
He escorts a French League of Nations official around Reading; a strange coincidence
Professor Hamilton had an unusual day today — he actually exceeded the one page allotted in his diary as he recounted it — escorting the director of the Paris office of the League of Nations around Reading. Though he relished the opportunity, the heavy snowfall meant driving his car through drifts of snow that in some places reached seven feet. “It was a terrible day — more snow and drifting,” he lamented. His next-door neighbor even asked to park his car under Professor Hamilton’s house.
Pierre de Lanux, a distinguished writer and career diplomat, was on a speaking tour of America to discuss conditions in Europe. He had an extraordinary resume, both before and after his visit to Reading, which you can read about at this French genealogy site. It is also the source of this photograph of de Lanux.
