Professor Hamilton rejoined his family in Bronxville today, with only his last chapter untyped. For once he gave himself and his wife a break and took her to New York to hear a concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra, performed in the stadium of City College. “Was cool and very delightful,” he wrote. The repertoire included “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” which most of us can’t hear without envisioning Mickey Mouse.

In today’s episode of The President’s Birthday Ball Affair, Missy LeHand and her assistant Grace Tully dress for the polio benefit ball and meet celebrity guest Ginger Rogers. This is Book 2 in the Missy LeHand Mystery series. (The five mysteries can be purchased in paperback or Kindle format.)

The poster above advertised the first Birthday Ball year, 1934. Besides the event at the Waldorf-Astoria, balls were held in 6,000 other locations.
