It was a leisurely Saturday for the Hamilton family. He slept in a bit and after breakfast, with mother-in-law still helping out with the baby, took Margaret and Gwennie to downtown Reading on some errands. “Later we set out plants in porch boxes,” he wrote.

With the Lindbergh kidnapping trial a recent memory, the nation’s attention was riveted by the nabbing of nine-year-old George Weyerhaeuser in Tacoma, Washington. Paid subscribers can read about the dastardly deed and what happened to George and his abductors.
