The Hamiltons had a pleasant Sunday. Professor Hamilton took his daughter Gwennie to Sunday school in the morning. “In afternoon it was very warm,” he wrote. “We took a ride in car — Mother, Margaret, children.” Always conscientious, he spent Sunday evening preparing exams to be given the next day at Albright College.

Not everyone was having such a pleasant Sunday. The Reading Times told of a struggling family of seven going hungry due to red tape and a heartless state official throwing old and disabled people off the assistance roles. There was also a pair of anti-nudist crusaders in town. Paid subscribers can read on.

The 1933 ad for a Chrysler automobile seemed to be aimed to women drivers. Did Margaret drive? I don’t know, but I can’t remember a mention of it in the diary! The ad is being offered by a dealer on eBay.
