Readers, I am attending the Roosevelt Reading Festival in Hyde Park, New York this weekend, so am combining a couple of diary entries for the sake of time. I will have lots to share about new books on FDR and his times when I get back.

Professor Hamilton had a loaded schedule both Sunday and Saturday as he and his family visited her parents in Bronxville, Westchester County, New York.

They attended the Episopal Church — possibly Christ Church — and heard a good serman from “Father Holy,” he wrote, then had an afternoon of social calls, both at home and away. They oohed and aahed over a friend’s new baby and had some “interesting talks.”

Things picked up significantly on Monday, when he, his father-in-law and Gwennie went to New York.

The 1939 postcard of the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue is being offered on eBay. The description on the flip side says the library, covering two city blocks, was opened in 1911 at a cost of $9 million and is said to be the most complete library in the country.
