Professor Hamilton's Diary: June 25, 1935
He buys underwear at Macy's; I report on authors who spoke at the FDR Library
Professor Hamilton returned to New York today to continue his research at the New York Public Library. But he had another mission in mind. “At noon I went out to Macy’s and bought underwear, etc., for myself,” he wrote. Well, a diary is not supposed to be read by anyone else, is it? Sorry, Professor Hamilton.
The R.H. Macy Company flagship store at Herald Square is just a few blocks from the library. Opened in 1902, it still stands today as Macy’s. Note the motto on the side of the building in this vintage postcard being offered on eBay: “IT’S SMART TO BE THRIFTY.”
