It was a good money day for Professor Hamilton. He picked up his paycheck at Albright College and received a letter from his sister Rose containing a check for $1,000, his portion of his late sister Irene’s estate. That’s almost $23,000 in current funds. Maybe he paid off his mortgage! He spent most of the day revising and retyping his thesis.

The front page of the Reading Times was dominated by news of the murder of a New York attorney, the nephew of Supreme Court Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes, in a Detroit park. Paid subscribers can read on about this notorious crime and how it was resolved.
