As the daughter and mother of college professors, I can imagine Professor Hamilton didn’t relish his duty today. He had an interview with a young man who had gotten a D in history, preventing his graduation. Ouch.

The Hamiltons kept Gwennie in bed all day, though her fever was gone. They looked forward to the arrival on Friday of Margaret’s father, sister, and dog (!).

When we left the destitute family of Walter Kern, it appeared that heartless bureaucrats and red tape bungling had left them on the verge of starvation. But there’s another side to every story and this one was told in the Reading Times. Paid subscribers can read on.
