It was a “very warm, spring-like day” and since it was Saturday in 1935, just as it is in 2024, Professor Hamilton had only morning classes. “We took Mary Elizabeth outside, and I held her, seated on front lawn, for about an hour in sun,” he wrote. That paints a sweet picture in my mind. Later, Margaret went on a walk and made some calls, while he looked after the girls. Unfortunately, the baby had a “restless night,” indicating to them that her ear problem is far from resolved.

A banner headline and breathless prose accompanied the Reading Times’ account of a national roundup of 2,500 people charged with federal crime violations, including eight in Reading.
