Professor Hamilton taught his classes as usual on this Saturday morning and then came home. “In evening, Margaret, who had not felt well really came down sick with tonsilitis,” he wrote.

Oh my. So here is the professor and his mother-in-law nursing the baby and Margaret. Thank goodness Gwennie hasn’t fallen sick or broken her glasses again! And remember, no antibiotics to wipe out that bacteria in Margaret’s throat.

Celebrated aviatrix Amelia Earhart — sometimes known as ‘Lady Lindy’ because of her resemblance to Charles Lindbergh — was spending a few days at the White House. The picture of Earhart and first lady Eleanor Roosevelt, swathed in furs, was taken during this visit as they headed to the National Geographic Society where Earhart gave a speech about her history-making flight from Hawaii to Oakland, California. The photo was accessed through Wikimedia Commons.
