Coming down off his high yesterday when he learned a benefactor would publish his dissertation, Professor Hamilton held classes, attended the prayer week program in the college chapel, met with two students, ran errands, picked up Gwennie at school because it was raining, got Margaret to and from the hospital (M.E. “seemed very cheerful, & bright”), studied, wrote letters and worked a bit on his dissertation notes. On top of that, he “had to order another ton of coal today.”

I guess the winter was hanging on longer than he had thought it would.
