Feeling sick today, Professor Hamilton bolstered himself with aspirin and managed to get through his presentation on Mexico to an audience of 76 Albright College Auxiliary members. “Came home very tired and weak,” he wrote. Apparently he and his mother-in-law agreed that they must have some outside help, so he got on the phone and made numerous calls until he located a couple of women to take shifts. “I retired about 10:00. Sick — chills & fever,” he wrote.

Well, at least he wasn’t as badly off as the beloved retired Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., who died of pneumonia today.
