In another post that reflects the political climate of the Roosevelt administration, Professor Hamilton wrote today of an “animated discussion” at a meeting of the American Association of University Professors where he presided. Paid subscribers can read more about the subject of “Pluralism and the New Deal.”

On the domestic front, he and Margaret went shopping for groceries and “underwear for baby.” Perhaps they were trying to toilet train Mary Elizabeth?

Thrifty mothers who could sew might make their daughters slips and underwear, and even fancy them up with embroidery, using this pattern. It is a legal reproduction of a 1930s pattern, offered by a dealer on eBay.
