Professor Hamilton's Diary: Nov. 12, 1935
He leads a radio round table discussion on peace; FDR is gifted a giant cheese wheel
This afternoon, Professor Hamilton, some students and colleagues went to a local radio station, WEEU, to do their broadcast on the topic “Can the United States Keep Out of the Next War?” He described it as a round table discussion of the topic. “It seemed to go over all right,” he wrote. “I did the greater share of the speaking.”
WEEU, which is still broadcasting today, was on the air from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. each day. Here’s the schedule for Nov. 12. I am assuming the International Relations Club group was taking the time slot of the Berks County Club Women, who were very interested in public affairs programming.
The radio schedule was clipped from the Reading Times via newspapers.com.
President Roosevelt was presented a giant cheese by the National Cheese Institute. Paid subscibers can read on about the strange history of mammoth cheeses at the White House.
